The 30 Pirouettes Agreement is proposed by James for Eldon, and although never written, is mutually understood between the two. This is the driving force behind Thalia and Eldon's relationship. The agreement is formed in "Run This Town."

History

After Eldon complains to James about his failed relationships with Emily and Michelle, James proposes that Eldon does not date another girl until he has reached 30 pirouettes, as he believes that Eldon's maturity and dancing will be at an equilibrium, allowing him to have a successful and long-lasting relationship.[1]

This agreement becomes a focal point of Season 3, when Eldon gains romantic feelings for Thalia of which are mutual. It is at this time that Eldon makes several attempts to go around the rules in order to be with Thalia. Although his efforts seem to work for a temporary time, he is soon prohibited from communicating with Thalia at all.[2]

The agreement is lifted in "Turn, Turn, Turn" when James decides that if Eldon wins the turning competition at Internationals, then he can finally date Thalia.[3]

Rules

  • No dating anyone until 30 pirouettes are accomplished.[1]
  • No love letters.[4]
  • No talking.[4]
  • No direct communication.[4]
  • No messages through other people.[2]

Loopholes

  • James never said anything about miming.
  • James never said anything about talking to each other through other people (this loophole is later revised).
  • Although messages through other people are prohibited, passing messages through dance is not.
  • Looking at each other is not prohibited.

Exceptions

  • James lets Eldon find a sweet spot for Thalia.[5]
  • James lets Thalia talk to Eldon when Eldon is nervous about his solo.[6]
  • James lets Eldon date Thalia if he wins the turning competition at Internationals, even if he doesn't do thirty pirouettes.[3]
