Contemporary is a dance style that is featured on the show.

History

Contemporary dance borrows from other dance genres, such as: jazz, lyrical, ballet, hip-hop and modern.[1] Unlike ballet, it is versatile and improvisational, and is often done in bare feet.[1]

During the early stages of the show, most dancers at The Next Step Dance Studio are contemporary dancers, easily outnumbering the members of the studio that specialize in any other genre.

Currently, on A-Troupe, there are four contemporary dancers: Amanda, Michelle, Noah and Piper . (Skylar has also been listed as a contemporary dancer.) They outnumber the current A-Troupe dancers of other genres.
