"Marry Me" is the 11th episode in Season 3 of The Next Step and the 75th episode overall. It was first aired on March 27, 2015.
Synopsis
James and Riley scramble to save Kathy's wedding.
Plot
James' driving instructor stands in the doorway of Hidalgo's.
James and Riley discuss Kathy's upcoming wedding and how he feels to be a part of A-Troupe again in Hidalgo's, awaiting Kathy's arrival. Kathy arrives and sits with them, during which James asks who the man she is engaged to is. James notices his crazy driving instructor in the doorway and points him out frantically; Kathy condemns his rudeness, deeming the instructor her fiancƩ, Arthur.
As Chloe, Michelle, and Cierra are leaving Studio A, Cierra and Michelle decide to practice their duet the following day at 1:00. Simultaneously, Thalia enters Studio A where Eldon happens to be. She asks him if he'd like to get some drinks with her and he reveals that he can't because he's teaching J-Troupe. She offers to help him and he agrees, confessing that he knows he can't date Thalia until he gets 30 pirouettes, but that they will be working together, not dating.
James teaches Arthur how to slow-dance in Kathy's house upon Kathy's request. Kathy arrives and tells Arthur that the wedding tent will be ready the following day. Overjoyed, they hug only for a squeaking noise to sound. Kathy deduces that it is a cat toy and tells him that they have already talked about the matter; when they move in together, his cat cannot live with them because she is allergic. Their conversation becomes an argument and Kathy gives him an ultimatum; he is to choose her or the cat. Arthur picks the cat and storms out.
Thalia and Eldon watch over the ill-behaved J-Troupers.
Eldon and Thalia teach J-Troupe's acro class. Eldon begins teaching some basic acro, but the young dancer find it too easy and begin flipping at random, with Thalia and Eldon failing to get their attention. Finally, Eldon gets the dancers' attention by performing a flip that is far superior to the ones they were performing and they finally listen to him with newfound respect. Thalia confesses that she is impressed.
Riley and James hang out in Hidalgo's, James no longer having to prepare for the wedding since it is cancelled. Though, the leisure time is cut short when Deborah enters and forces him to get the wedding back in order. Deborah, seeing Riley as family, compels her to complete a list of tasks with her for the wedding.
Eldon and Thalia are talking to J-Troupe about how important chemistry is with one's partner when dancing. The J-Troupers proceed to ask them to demonstrate and the two comply by performing a duet. Eldon proceeds to confess that the dance requires a lot of trust and that he trusts Thalia 100%. Thalia also confesses that it's nice doing the duet, because she knows that Eldon likes her. Unknowing of Eldon's predicament, she confesses that she hopes they can date after the duet.
Arthur admits to James that he doesn't have a best man for the wedding.
At the Department of Motor Vehicles, James comforts a crying Arthur. Arthur admits that he doesn't really care about the cat and that the real problem is that he doesn't have a best man for the wedding. James assures him that he will be his best man, leaving Arthur overjoyed to the point that he proclaims that everybody has passed their driving tests, leading the boss to angrily exit his office. Subsequently, Arthur runs away and James hesitantly follows.
At Enzo's warehouse, Riley is getting suits and dresses for the wedding's guests as a part of the many tasks on Deborah's list.
Cierra dances in Studio A, having waited for Michelle for an hour. Cierra decides to leave just as Michelle finally arrives. Michelle apologizes profusely, explaining that she didn't know whether her mom or dad was driving her. Cierra says that she understands, having divorced parents but still leaves angrily. Riley tries to console a crying Kathy at her house. Riely receives a call from James and reveals the situation. James assures her that the wedding is back on and puts Arthur on the phone to speak to Kathy. Arthur apologizes to Kathy and the two concur that the wedding will still happen. Newly happy, Kathy receives a call that the band has cancelled and resumes crying which Arthur resounds upon hearing the news. James professes that his band will perform instead.
Michelle cries about her parents's divorce and remarks that she feels responsible for it.
Chloe approaches Michelle at Hidalgo's. Michelle begins to cry, revealing that she feels like the divorce is all her fault because of how busy she had made both her parents with her dance. Chloe assures her that this is untrue, but eventually leaves Michelle alone, who confesses that she is tired of burdening everyone.
Kathy and Arthur prepare to get married by a sea captain. After Kathy says her vows, it is Arthur's turn... although Arthur canāt get out his vows without bursting into tears. James resorts to helping him and, eventually, Arthur manages to utter the words. Arthur and Kathy finally get married. In celebration, Arthur proceeds to sing a song. Despite it originally being in honour of Kathy, Arthur quickly veers off topic and begins obsessively singing about James. At first, James finds it odd, but he realizes that he deserves the shout-out because he saved the wedding. James's band then performs a song, which the guests appreciate immensely.

- Cierra and Michelle are doing a routine to "Hotel" together.
- Arthur used to own a cat called Mr. Dicky Meaps.
- Cierra's parents are divorced.
- Arthur is now married to Kathy, making him James's uncle.
Continuity
- The routine that Cierra and Michelle plan to rehearse, as mentioned by Michelle, is the "Hotel" routine that is eventually performed in "Blind".
- Thalia and Eldon teaching a J-Troupe acro class together coincidentally foreshadows their Season 6 arc of Thalia being the studio head of AcroNation and Eldon being her head choreographer; given that the writing for Season 4 wasn't planned yet, much less Season 6, this is just a happy coincidence.
- Riley says that she had to take the bus to pick up all the dresses and return them, thus implying that she is still does not have her driver's license and is possibly still too young to get it (or at least does not have a car). Given that Emily turns 17 in Season 3 (given that she and Eldon are one year older than James and James has to be 16 in "Better Than This") and Riley is Emily's younger sister, Riley is, at maximum, turning 16 in Season 3. This indicates that in this episode, Riley is still not 16 or at least does not have her license yet.
Errors
- James and Riley never perform the duet to "I Need You Now" that they were preparing for Kathy and Arthur's wedding in "Game, Set, and Match."
- However, it is possible that they performed it and it was just not shown on-screen.
- Neither James nor Riley wears the clothes they get for the wedding at Enzo's warehouse in "I'm Your Captain."
- Piper is not seen attending the wedding, despite being a close relative of Kathy's.
- This error can be explained through logic, as Alexandra Chaves had not been cast when this episode was filmed; however, it is never confirmed whether Piper is supposed to have attended the wedding, or if she had a reason for not being there.
- However, given that Riley was Kathy and Arthur's bridesmaid, it is more likely that Piper was not present at the wedding, given that Piper is their niece and Riley is James's girlfriend.
- Ironically, Alexandra Chaves auditioned for Season 3 of The Next Step and wasn't cast; this is likely because the showrunners and writers hadn't planned the writing of Season 4 onwards at that time.[1]
- This error can be explained through logic, as Alexandra Chaves had not been cast when this episode was filmed; however, it is never confirmed whether Piper is supposed to have attended the wedding, or if she had a reason for not being there.
