"Good Girls Go Bad" is the 6th episode in Season 1 of The Next Step and the 6th episode overall. It first aired on March 22, 2013.
Synopsis[]
Emily convinces some of the A-Troupe dancers to spy on their main competition.
Plot[]
As most of A-Troupe converses in Studio A, James asks Riley about a trio competition that Emily, Tiffany, and Stephanie are attending. Riley says she doesn’t know much about it, as she is trying to avoid discussing dance with Emily. Moments later, the girls return from the competition and announce that they came in second place; as they are congratulated by the others, James asks who placed first, and Emily reveals that it was their long-term rivals: Elite Dance Academy. Stephanie shows the dancers footage of Elite's dance from the competition, and as she expected, everyone is astounded at how good they are. When it ends, Emily suggests that some of them should go and spy on Elite so they can be more prepared to face them at Regionals. Riley volunteers her services, but Emily informs her that the invitation isn't extended to her; Riley is saddened by this, as she thought that Emily would have forgiven her by now. Eldon immediately agrees to go, thinking he can pretend the trip is a date with Emily, though she herself firmly asserts that it isn’t. Emily asks James if he wants to come, but he declines. She then swiftly attempts to dismiss the possibility of Michelle coming, but to her surprise, Michelle insists she wants to go, as she hopes it will give her a chance to bond with her teammates. Emily permits her to come along to make the others believe she is being fair, but confesses that the team isn't a democracy - it's an "Emily-ocracy".
At Squeezed, James is working on his math, as he still needs to bring up his dropping grades. Riley approaches him, and requests a favour - she wants him to go on the trip to Elite to make sure that nothing happens to Michelle, as she doesn’t trust Emily to look out for her. James eventually accepts, but not before he assures Riley that it will cost her.
Meanwhile, Daniel enters Studio A while Giselle is stretching, and they embrace. He confesses that he has known Giselle since he was five, and that she mentored him for many years in the hope that they would one day be in A-Troupe together. The two briefly discuss dance and A-Troupe as they stretch; before long, Giselle has to go, and she expresses her sadness that she and Daniel aren't on the same team, vowing that she will practise as hard as she can in order to make it back to A-Troupe. As Giselle leaves, Beth enters with another B-Trouper, and asks Daniel if he has seen James. Daniel says no, and she leaves despondently; he is visibly humoured at her persistence, since according to him, Beth and James dated for "five minutes". As Daniel starts rehearsing, West suddenly enters; he is extremely annoyed that Daniel is there, as he thought he would have the studio to himself. After arguing over who should be allowed to rehearse there, they eventually decide to divide the space, but the tension between them does not dissipate.
Back at Squeezed, James is trying to convince Emily to let him come on the trip to Elite by claiming that knows various shortcuts. Eventually, he reveals that one of his ex-girlfriends dances there and he knows a back entrance to the building, prompting Riley to observe disdainfully that James has dated girls everywhere. Despite her confusion at his sudden desire to go with them, Emily decides that James's information could be useful, and allows him to join them. James returns to Riley and informs her that she owes him a favour.
In Studio A, West begins blasting his music at full volume, and accidentally dances on Daniel's side of the studio. Daniel turns off West's music, complaining that he did not stay on his side and that his music is too loud; West is unsympathetic, believing Daniel needs to loosen up. The two bicker about one of them rehearsing in Studio B until Daniel realizes that they are at an impasse. Meanwhile, the other dancers are heading towards Elite, and upon their arrival, they enter the studio through James's secret entrance: the delivery entrance.
Back in Studio A, West suggests that he and Daniel choreograph a solo for each other in their respective styles to settle their differences. Daniel believes that the idea is crazy, but nonetheless assures West that he is going to teach him a lesson.
Meanwhile, the other dancers enter Elite's B Studio and watch them rehearse a routine. They are blown away by the quality of their dancing, with Emily proclaiming that they are like "dancing robots." After watching them for a while, James decides that they have seen enough, and the group follows him out.
In Studio A. Daniel begins to teach West some ballet. West struggles to pick it up, and Daniel even remarks that he has "biscuit feet"; despite this, he confesses that he is having fun teaching him.
After the dancers have exited Elite, Emily decides that somebody should go back inside and film their routine. Michelle volunteers to do it, thinking it will help her be on better terms with Emily. Despite James's protests, Emily tells Michelle that she can do it, and sends her back into the studio.
West shows Daniel a handshake for their warm-up, then begins teaching him hip-hop. Daniel struggles with the lack of technique, and West is forced to correct him on various habits from his technical training: he tells him that they speak English in hip-hop rather than French, stops him from looking in the mirror while he dances, and tells him that he has to "feel the music".
As Michelle records Elite's routine on her phone, the group outside starts wondering what is taking her so long, and Emily decides to text her. Michelle's phone beeps as she receives the text, instantly drawing the attention of the Elite dancers, much to her dismay. When Michelle doesn’t respond, Emily instructs Stephanie to find out what is going on.
After taking time to learn the other's preferred style, West and Daniel combine them to create a fusion duet, and the two confess that they both learned something from each other.
Everyone from Elite is staring at Michelle, and the studio head beckons her to come out from behind the piano. At that point, Stephanie enters the studio and sees that Michelle has been caught; instead of helping, she races outside to tell the others. In a panic, Emily forces everyone into her car so that they are not caught as well. James attempts to convince them not to leave, but eventually gives into Emily’s nagging; the group drives away, effectively abandoning Michelle. As she is scrutinized by the Elite dancers, Michelle confesses that she is incredibly overwhelmed and feels like crying.
