"Pilot" is the unaired first episode of The Next Step that was sent to Family Channel to give them an idea of what the show would be like.
Due to various legal reasons, the pilot has never been broadcast and therefore not much is known about it.
History[]
In order for The Next Step to be given the green light by Family Channel, the pilot was created in the hope that the show would go to series — which it did, albeit with several notable changes (see 'Differences' below).
After the pilot was viewed by Family Channel, it was consigned to the vaults where it has remained ever since.
Differences[]
Since the pilot was filmed before the show went to series and recording on Season 1 began, there are notable differences between it and the main show:
- Since songs for the show were not yet created, the show's theme song was "Jump" by Madonna.[1]
- Logan Fabbro, not Alexandra Beaton, portrays Emily.[2]
- Eldon wears braces in the pilot, and not in the show.[3]
- James has a crush on Michelle rather than Riley.[4]
- The primary location is Miss Amy's School of Dance.[5]
- Chloe and Tiffany are portrayed by different actresses.[6][7]
- The characters of Giselle, West, Kate, and Chris are not featured in the pilot.[6]
