Pop and lock is a dance style that is rarely practiced at The Next Step Dance Studio.

History

Pop and lock is a subgenre of hip-hop that originated from the United States of America in the late 1960s to the 1970s. It started in Fresno, California where it was often performed in dance battles and still is today.

Pop and lock consists of a dancer quickly contracting and relaxing muscles in their body. This move is known as a "pop" or "lock."

Pop and lock is usually done to slow and soft hip-hop or techno music, with occasional hard beats, to characterize the waves and the hits.[1]
